Here's to 50s year of faking it!

Today we celebrate the great anniversary of sunless tanning, discovered in 1960 when skin cancer was linked to sun exposure and the demand for a sunless tan became increasingly popular. Some of you may remember the days of cloggy, streaky and plain old impossible fakery, well fast-forward to 2010 and we've developed spray, lotion, gel, wipes or air brushing to get the ultimate tan no matter what colour your after.

It is thought that a woman is the real beginner of the tanning trend. Believe it or not, Coco Channel, who got rid of the old and strict outlook of women, started the vogue of tanned skin. Suffice to say that getting on a cruise ship in 1920 at Cannes was equivalent to a new tendency and a new frame of mind forever. Since two hundreds years ago, only pale skin was admitted as perfect and desirable. Tanned people came only from lower classes; upper classes were not allowed sun-exposure. Otherwise, they would have been assimilated to poor people, working outdoor.

After 50 years of faking it, you would have thought we had got to grips with it but we decided to take a look at the good, the bad and the plain old hilarious!

I'm a massive fan of Chelsy Davy . . . mainly because we have never had a peroxide blonde fake tan involved in The Royal Family, do i hear wedding bells or is that the timer to exfoliate?

Another personal favourite of a random lady, no this has not been photoshopped and no she is not colour blind.
